Originally opened in 1989 as a 1/8-mile dirt go-kart track in Grand Bay, Alabama, the facility that is now SSR Motorsports Park has been a cornerstone of grassroots motorsports along the Gulf Coast for more than three decades.

1993 - 1996

Began hosting full-size race cars and expanded to a 1/4-mile configuration.

2002

The track was paved, creating the high-banked asphalt oval drivers know today.

The Identities

Operated as Big Oaks Speedway, J & J Speedway and Sunny South Raceway.

Historic Events

Host to the 2012 INEX Bandolero Nationals and the 2013 Sunny South Criterium.

A New Era: SSR Motorsports Park

In 2026, the facility entered a new chapter under new ownership and was rebranded as **SSR Motorsports Park**, part of the broader SSR Motorsports Complex vision. The new ownership group has begun transforming the property into a multi-discipline motorsports destination.

"The new layout allows the facility to host drift competitions, open drift days, and performance driving events, while still preserving the legacy oval racing that has defined the track for decades."

The long-term vision is to create a regional hub for grassroots motorsports, combining oval racing, karting, drifting, road course events, and motorsports culture into a single destination. Our drivers start as young as 4 years old and span to well over 40.
